Helping Your Sick Pet: What To Do When Your Cat Is Non-Stop Vomiting
Has your cat been vomiting throughout the day? While cats can vomit for a lot of reasons, you may feel a bit concerned, especially if this is out of the ordinary for your pet. If you want to make sure nothing serious is going on with your cat, you should take a few different steps to figure out what is causing the vomiting and what you can do to help your pet.
Think of Any Possible Changes You Have Made
There is a possibility that your cat is vomiting because you have given the animal new food or snacks. Think of any changes you have recently made that could be causing this problem to occur. If you have tried a new food for your pet, and now the animal is vomiting, the food may not have agreed with your cat's stomach, thus causing the vomiting to occur. If you have not made any changes to your cat's diet, the vomiting may be caused by something else.
Collect a Sample of Your Cat's Vomit
While it may not be the most enjoyable thing to do, collecting a sample of your cat's vomit is important. The veterinarian would be able to test the vomit to figure out what is causing your cat to feel so sick. The best way to get a sample is to put on a pair of gloves, grab a resealable sandwich bag, and carefully place the vomit into the bag, sealing it shut so that the contents of the bag won't spill out into your purse or bag as you take it to the pet hospital.
Bring Your Animal to the Pet Hospital
If the vomiting is not subsiding, bring your cat over to the pet hospital for testing. Sometimes cats will vomit because of simple things, such as running too much after eating a large meal. However, there are times when vomiting may be a sign of something more serious, such as a bacterial infection or even urinary tract disease.
Once the veterinarian performs tests and determines the cause of the vomiting, he or she may provide a prescription for antibiotics and recommend things you can do to make your pet feel more comfortable while it overcomes an infection or sickness.
Cats vomit for quite a few different reasons. If you are concerned because your cat has been vomiting throughout the day, try to think of any changes you have made, collect a sample of the vomit, and then head over to the pet hospital, where a veterinarian can perform an examination on your cat to find out what is happening.
