Is Your Dog Lethargic And Not Eating? What You Can Do

When your dog isn't feeling well, you can probably see a difference in the way it is acting. If your dog is usually excited and energetic and is suddenly sullen and listless, it's a major difference. Not all dogs will have this much of a noticeable change, but there may be other things your dog is doing that is a change in its daily routine. If your dog isn't eating suddenly, it's a noticeable change that you should take note of. If your dog isn't acting like itself, is listless, and is not eating, it may be cause for concern and you may need to take your dog to the veterinarian hospital. Read on for a few other things you can do for your dog.

Soften Your Dog's Food

If your dog usually eats harder food pieces, try wetting the food to soften it. Help create more of a gravy or soft food for your dog. If your dog has a toothache, for instance, eating soft foods will help allow your dog to eat without it hurting its teeth or gums. If your dog has a stomach concern, eating the softer food may be better on your dog's digestive system, especially if your dog is having an issue with its bowels. Also, be sure your dog is drinking water, and give your dog fresh water throughout the day. This could mean bringing your dog's water bowl to it instead of your dog having to get up to get to the water bowl.

Allow Your Dog The Rest

If your dog is not feeling well, trying to get your dog up and moving may not be helpful, and can actually worsen your dog's condition. Don't make your dog get up and go for a walk—you're only going to make your dog suffer more. Allow your dog to get the rest it needs in order to feel better.

Monitor Your Dog For Changes

Keep a close eye on your dog for other changes such as throwing up or anything in your dog's feces that may suggest it got into something it shouldn't have. Take notes that can help your veterinarian or the hospital when you take your dog in for treatment.

If your dog has not been eating and is lethargic, and it's a noticeable change, you should take your dog to the veterinarian hospital for a diagnosis and for treatment. Talk to the veterinarian about other things you have found, such as toxins your dog may have ingested, or anything else you have noticed.
